The Rubbish Shakespeare Company (RubSC) are a children’s and family-friendly theatre company, with roots in Creative Education. Founded by three LJMU graduates in 2007, RubSC’s mission is to make Shakespeare For All. Their goal: for the Bard’s work to be accessible to everyone, regardless of background. As for those who’ve had negative formative experiences with Shakespeare, RubSC want to show Shakespeare is not, in fact, rubbish!
Again, thank you so much for today. You've been brilliant and there's a real buzz around the Department and in Year 7 with what you've done.
Mr Whiteside - Loreto high School
Founded originally as a street theatre company, the RubSC began their 8 years of delivering quality Creative Education after a performance in front of a delighted Primary School teacher. They have since adapted ten of Shakespeare’s classics into their ‘Rubbish’ style - performed at a weeks notice - and collectively performed to tens of thousands. This has lead to collaborations with both the Royal Shakespeare Company and Canal & River Trust.
Thank you so much for the performance last week. The children loved it and so did the staff. A new member of staff who had not had the Rubbish Shakespeare experience before declared that she hadn’t laughed so much in ages
Mrs Howell - Monkfield Park Primary School
In April 2016, RubSC performed at the Bard by the Beach Festival, Morecambe - the first performance of a ‘Rubbish’ play open to the general public. Nerves were jangling, but after an overwhelmingly positive reception, RubSC realised performing solely for schools was selling the mission short: Shakespeare for ALL. And thus our tale begins...
Hi! we just wanted to say a big thanks for making us laugh so much. all three girls raved about your performance. really great!
tammy, happy parent
The Rubbish Shakespeare Company is continually evolving, improving and building as a company. Over the years we have created, ran and lead some exciting projects - from a canal boat residential to school productions of Shakespeare - as well as worked with amazing companies including Aim Higher, Canal & River Trust and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
We are always striving to make Shakespeare For All
